FAQ
Who are typical patients that require braces?
Children whose dental development has gone astray (The American Association of Orthodontists recommend an orthodontic examination by age 7). Teens whose teeth need straightening during growth spurts. Adults who've developed crooked teeth due to poor oral habits, tooth loss, gum disease, and/or injury.
What are the signs to look for in deciding whether I need braces or not?
Crowding of teeth, too much space between the teeth, extra or missing teeth, deep bite and various irregularities of the dental arch and jaw are all signs that you may need corrective realignment. Also, any appearance that is not satisfactory could indicate a need for braces.
What's involved in the treatment process?
Made of ceramic or metal, brackets are placed on each tooth with connecting wire around the upper and lower dental arch. The arch wire is adjusted to conform to your perfect 'bite'. Adults and mature teens with minimal crowding and spacing (1-6 mm.), may avoid braces with removable aligners called Invisalign®.
How long is the procedure?
The time allotted for braces to work vary according to age, degree of misalignment and patient. Generally, treatment times take between 1-3 years. However, early treatment procedures may only take a few months.
Will I experience any pain?
Not really. Wearing braces, over time, gently realign teeth to their proper positions and usually causes minimal discomfort.
How much will it cost?
The cost depends on the complexity of treatment. It may be partially covered under your insurance plan. At The Brace Place, we strive to offer the best fees for the highest quality treatment, to give you a beautiful smile that will last a lifetime. Everyone can afford braces - we have extended interest-free payment plans, or if you prefer, through our partners we can arrange a health care loan. A few hundred dollars per month is often all you need to be able to afford.
